  • Comments Thread For: Paul Smith 'Gutted' Over WBO Ruling on Direct Rematch

As previously reported, the WBO denied Paul Smith the chance of an immediate rematch with super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham. Smith was beaten on points by Abraham last month in Kiel but the one-sided nature of the scoring came in for widespread criticism.

The Liverpool boxer pushed Abraham all the way but the veteran kept hold of his belt, scores of 117-111, 117-111 and 119-109 causing outrage from supporters and pundits alike after what was seen to be a relatively close match.

Agree - it's more to keep his name in the mix I imagine.

The judges should be investigated because of such horrible score cards, especially 119-109 but the right man still got the decision. No rematch necessary. Unfortunately for Smith, he had his shot and he fell a little short but it was a good effort, so he should keep his head held high.

I think smith deserves to fight froch cause he's owed a huge payday and we should all watch it, joe gallagher can come out and say he'd be putting his health on the line and should be guaranteed 10 million, and that we'll only do it if theres a rematch clause, 50/50 on the takings seing as smith is above that level, he's beaten a handful of domestic fighters where as froch has only beaten world level opposition. Smith has in fact sparred with Andre Ward and he did alright, people would say he doesnt deserve to be in the ring with froch but he held his own in sparring with Ward so I know he's at that level.

              The audacity of Paul Smith...

Listen Mr.Smith, you didn't deserve the opportunity in the first place. The only reason you got that shot is because you aren't that good and they wanted a soft touch for Abraham. Fair enough, you acquitted yourself well out there and even gave Abraham a tough fight. Which is something a domestic level fighter like yourself should be proud of.

Let me reiterate, you never have and never will deserve to share a ring with a world champion. Count yourself lucky you managed to and stop bitching about a rematch.

Smith nicked that fight and those scores were a bloody disgrace! He should be champion right now whether he deserved the shot or not (he didn't)

                He should retire now imo

The audacity of D-Mize aka mr forum nerd talking like he's some ten ****ing men with the ''listen Mr. Smith''

Your balls would drop if you were stood face to face with him, so give over with the talking or shall i say typing in your case like you're some big man, your words would be quite different if you had to say them to him rather than typing them out on a internet forum i'd bet.

Smith might not be no world beater but he's proven he can mix it with a world champ in Abraham, that's a fact and your ''domestic level'' comment is laughable when someone has already proven they are obviously not when they give a world champion such a tough fight like he did.

I'd say it to his face, somewhat more polite but the fact remains that he never did anything to earn a shot. I addressed him specifically 'cause I'm sure he reads these forums and if he sees my comment, he could let me know why he deserved a shot in the first place. He doesn't need to tell me why, who am I but just another face in the crowd.

Abraham is a very poor world champion thus why someone like Paul Smith was selected for a title defence.

I don't think I'm a big man and Paul Smith has achieved more than I ever will in the sport of boxing. He's not a bum, he's just not deserving of a shot at a world title. I'm bored of seeing the several articles with Smith ****ing on about a rematch, the scoring etc.
