Comments Thread For: Takashi Uchiyama-Israel Perez Set For December 31

Argentinean super featherweight contender Israel "Cachito" Perez (27-2-1, 16 KOs) will finally fulfill his dream of fighting for a world title when he faces unbeaten Japanese Champion Takashi "KO Dynamite" Uchiyama (21-0-1, 17 KOs) for the WBA Super Featherweight Championship on December 31 at the Ota City General Gym in Tokyo, Japan.

35-year-old Perez's career has taken off since joining forces with promoters Sampson Lewkowicz and Maravilla Box. The ex-Olympian and national and regional professional champion is coming of an eighth round destruction of Carlos Rodriguez for the WBA FEDEBOL Super featherweight title, earning him the 9th spot in the WBA ratings.

And this is the best super featherweight in the world? I'm not even saying he's not the best at 130 but he's getting way too much credit considering the opposition he's been facing in the last three years (since beating Miura and Jorge Solis back to back). Last three opponents: Parra, Kaneko, and Israel Perez. None of them are top 15/20 at 130.

A quick look at this Argentinean's record tells you all you need to know. He's probably no better than Saucedo. Uchiyama seems to enjoy these safe fights in Japan.

I'm getting really tired of waiting for Uchiyama to fight a top opponent.

Yep. There are so many good fighters in and around his weight class, it's a shame that he's not facing any of them.

Sad. Dude is fun to watch and he's wasting into old age (soon to be 35) doing once-a-year cupcake defenses like this. Apparently we've all got a higher opinion of him than his management or he just doesn't have an ambition to fight the best, like Sturm was for years at 160

                  Uchiyama said he'd fight Garcia.

Arum tried to make the fight Garcia/HBO did not want it.

Who else is there really? 130 isn't that deep a weight class.

Parra actually beat Puerta who's fighting Miura. Kaneko is about a top 15-20 fighter. This guy kind of has the look of sucking.

Who is there for him to fight in reality he or no other fighter is going to take a pay-cut to fight abroad i'm also not sure about his dealings w/tv networks and how that affects things.

Name 1 fighter who's ever said they want to fight Uchiyama it might not be as desirable an option as everyone believes it to be.
