  • Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Canelo Lost Nothing in Mayweather Loss

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya says Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs) got even bigger, as a fighter and as a person, following his twelve round majority decision loss last September to Floyd Mayweather Jr.

There were many expects who felt Canelo was not mentally ready and too inexperienced to face a boxer on the level of Mayweather.

The event was very lucrative, generating 2.2 million pay-per-view purchases and going down as the richest event in boxing history.

So if he would've won. He would've gained nothing? I mean since you're saying he 'lost' nothing. Then what exactly was he fighting for then? If he lost nothing, then with a win he would've gained nothing?

And so if he lost nothing in that fight. Then was the game plan to 'lose' then?

Sometimes these 'people' need to think before they speak.

a relapse is on it way. Not only did alvared lose his undefeated record. He got beat by a little guy, didnt win one round and proves that alvared can't fight skilled fighters. Alvared lost to money, trout, and Lara. He only looks good with punching bags in fromt of him.

Basically he's saying that it was a win win for canelo. Losing to Floyd didn't hurt his marketability at such a young age.

Hanging onto the words of ODLH, is like grasping at straws -- He's becoming the Freddie Roach of promotions.

ODLH is also, hanging as tight as he can to Canelo's nutsack, because without him, GBP is in big trouble.

People put too much into a loss. Not even a Canelo fan but dude's 24 & trying to fight the best. We need more boxers willing to do that. He may lose to Cotto but he's going for it, that's all that matters.

This..............Oscar is trying to convince himself here, cokeboy ruined a sure thing, had he held Canelo from Mayweather his fight would have Manny Floydesqe levels of hype, not only did Canelo get exposed and basically quit vs the lil man, Lara happened 2 fights later, h is now seen as the non mexican fighting/looking mexican, who look sub par against brothers Tyner included. Also since Oscar made it his job to become his talk box, Oscar's haters generated toward Canelo, canelo doesn't have the skill, woman fanbase or fanbase period to deal with this level of hate and criticism, how do a fighter who was a part of a 2.3 ppv number, be relegated back to regular TV in less than a years time.........

              Oscar ruined Canelo big time..........................

Canelo is a afterthought Cotto dictates everything and he want July he's not, ****** enough to go against Mayweather, plus a fight of this magnitude needs to be in Vegas in the MGM grand who would never go against Floyd......

Oscar's meddling and ego is ruining this fight...........................
