This isn't a Floyd thread as such, it applies to others but i am going to use Floyd as the example here as he's the biggest name. And in line with his "working smart" saying.
Here's what you have to understand....
Us fans don't make a penny from Floyd, there is no incentive for us financially. Our goal should be to receive the best fights possible, we are fans of the sport, we want good fights, thats our incentive. That's what we gain from the sport and Floyd isn't giving us that. I've noticed some Floyd fans take their sense of victory from his business rather than his boxing and it's the wrong attitude and the longer his fans are brainwashed into believing that's what defines a great fighter, the longer fighters like Floyd will stop the best fights happening.
Our only incentive is to carry on loving and being entertained by the sport, thats what gives us emotion and excitement. That will only happen when fighters are left with little option but to fight the fights that make sense from a boxing perspective, not purely a business move. The boxing fans have more power than we think, all the money comes from the pocket of the fans. We're the ones who buy the tickets and the PPV's. No man or business wants to take a hit in their earnings, so if fans stick to their guns and only invest in the fights they believe in, it will force fighters and promoters to make the right fights to keep their pockets being lined because thats what they want at the end of the day, it's a business.
The longer fans take their glory from their fighters business and buy into that and invest into the fighter as a product and not a boxer, the more the sport will suffer to the point of more corruption and more terrible fights where the best can avoid each other.
