Canelo's record right now is 44W[31KO]-1L-1D. If you ask Mayweather then Canelo is undefeated, because catchweight fights don't count,
.
If Canelo fights twice a year the soonest he'll be able to reach 55 wins is 5 1/2 years from now. But that's IF he wins every single one of those fights.
It was great to hear at the beginning of this year that Canelo was going to fight 3 times, but it looks like Canelo will continue his career on a 2 fight per year pace. I know that HBO would like to have Canelo on regular HBO once a year, but if Canelo fights in May and September each year, where would the third fight fall? If Canelo fights 3 times a year here and there then I like his chances of hitting 55 wins a little more.
Then comes the weight issue. IF Canelo can stay at 154 for at least 2 more years, and then move up to 160 I like his chances to surpass 55 wins in his career. I think Canelo will be at his peak at 160. I don't see Canelo being a force at 168, so I'd consider his career on the down side if he ever gets there.
Here's a few guys that I see in Canelo's future:
Miguel Cotto, Vanes Martirosyan, James Kirkland, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Matt Korobov, Tim Bradley, Gennady Golovkin, Victor Ortiz, Ryota Murata, Keith Thurman, Joshua Clottey, Gabriel Rosado, Jermell Charlo, David Lemieux, Marcos Maidana, Demetrius Andrade
Can Canelo get to 55 wins going through some of them?
