we are going to look back one day and realize Jhonny Gonzalez punch altered the boxing landscape in a very significant way. Mares career seems stuck. He was on his way IMO to stardom and the HOF and that punch changed everything.

Most significant punch IMO since Forrest hit Mosley and derailed him from what was looking to be an ATG career.

I'm pulling for Mares and hope he can get his career out of the muck. He's too good a fighter.

Can we say that Hunter is not that good of a trainer?

way to early to tell that, he won he comeback fight not in spectacular fashion but is more to do with Hunter style he imposes on his fighters to use and not really down to mares the man himself.

I say Mares is just fine, but well have to wait and see.

I think its safe to say that, all we have to ask is when was the last time he had a meaningful win? 2011 against froch?

I hope you are right. I really mean it. but my gut tells me otherwise. That was a career trajectory changing KO IMO. He has lost a year off his career and the quality of opponent is surely going to change when he comes back.

Remember, the Jhonny fight was supposed to bne a win to set up bigger things.

                  Right Choice!

Nothing against Virgil Hunter he is a DECENT trainer but he gets way too much credit for Andre Ward success, Ward is a special fighter, I doubt he will be lucky enough to get a talent like Andre Ward again.

But I like Medina I think he is a good trainer, he is not the reason why Mares lost to Jhonny Gonzalez
