punchers are always overrated like Matthyssee, Golovkin, Wilder, Provodnikov
let some guy with a bunch of kayos get a ko over a former champion or contender and then they all of a sudden become the boogey man while most people fail to notice defensive shortcomings, lack in technique or crappy competition.
MOst of the time, the very first time they get in with someone who can take their punch and land their own, they have no plan b at a certain point
....the most overrated fighter today Gennady Golovkin
GGG is a terrific fighter but for the competition he has been facing hasn't been a murderer's row and out of 30+ fights he has faced maybe 3 legit top ten guys
Its great to rack up ko's but lets be honest, he has not beat an elite fighter yet and he receives praise for what he possibly can do, than what he actually hasLast edited by therealpugilist; 10-06-2014, 09:49 PM.Comment

nah...If you asked the average person on the street to list the 3 greatest boxers of all time, their answer would be:
1. Muhummad Ali
2. Mike Tyson
3. Hulk Hogan
They would have no idea who Ray Robinson, Joe Louis or Willie Pep were, and would probably think they were MMA fighters, if not baseball players. If you mentioned Rocky they would say "Dude, movies don't count".
Take that how you will. It depends on your definition of overrated, but some fighters definitely receive DISPROPORTIONATE mainstream attention.
Ali
Tyson
Holyfield
Floyd/Manny
Lmao at those boxers being "though of as baseball players" I can totally see it.Comment

Floyd - in terms of greatness
Jones Jr. - in terms of greatness
Lennox Lewis - in terms of HW greatness
Miguel Cotto - in terms of the mythical "fights everyone" crap.
Arturo Gatti - while exciting, dude didn't deserve to get into the HOF
Joe Frazier - I like him the most out of the ones I mentioned, exciting but he really wasn't all that.
Azumah Nelson - Some dudes call this guy an ATG while ****ting on Oscar considering Oscar's resume shits on this dude. Closed fist mentality.Comment

You buggin! Pacman doesnt make or break Floyd's career. This dude is probably the most skilled fighter in history. It must be distinguished what he does in the ring and what type of resume, titles etc he has.I read a lot of key board warriors going on about how various boxers are overrated and never as good as people say. I hear the endless:
"Mike Tyson only fought bums/C grade boxers"
"Muhammad Ali wasn't even close to being the greatest"
"Rocky Marciano's unbeaten streak was bull****"
"Floyd Gayweather"
So if someone can get it out there and tell me what their most overrated or underrated boxer is? Personally I think Mayweather is super ****in overrated, especially for running from pacman for so long. And Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali and Marciano will always be in my personal top ten boxers.
I dont think Floyd has the best resume, but its not even debatable that he executed boxing in a way it will never happen again.
I dont think their will ever be a fighter who could fight his "bums" and come out with a plus minus of 30! I think he beats SRL based off of mental prowess and dedication. But skillwise, omg we dont need to talk about that because SRL made waay too many mistakes.Comment

Floyd skillset is overrated to me.. he really aint as versatile as his fans claim to be...fighting on the backfoot and inside fighting?...lol, he aint no sweetpea, still good enough to carry his jockstrap but there is a clear skills gap for sure...Comment
