Comments Thread For: Chudinov's Promoter on Danny Jacobs Negotiations, More

Well-known Russian promoter Vladimir Hryunov shared his thoughts on what’s going on in the middleweight division (specifically regarding the WBA) to Vesti.kz. Hryunov promotes WBA #1 and “interim” champion Dmitry Chudinov (14-0-2, 9 KOs), and wants to get his boxer into eventual fights with WBA 'regular' champion Daniel Jacobs (28-1, 25 KOs) and WBA 'super' champion Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27 KOs)

On a proposed showdown between Chudinov and Jacobs- “We are presently in negotiations [with Team Jacobs]. Those negotiations are being very difficult”.
Haha. Makes sense. Jacobs don't want no more Pirog flashbacks.

Dmitry Chudinov isn't nearly as tricky as Pirog, but he's still fairly skilled and he can really ****. It'd certainly be a risky fight for Jacobs and having watched the Quillin debacle unfold I'm pretty sure Haymon doesn't want this.

I'm as confident as I can be that we see Jacobs vs Quillin instead of this even if it means Jacobs abandoning his 'regular' title.

Man - how do you go from the middleweight champ to obscurity without losing your title? Quillin has to be one of the most ill advised Champions in the history of the sport - I saw a interview where he said he does not know when his next fight is? He said he was told to enjoy his 1st born??? Jacobs not sure what's going on, would have thought Quillin / Jacobs would have been the priority fight to make! Quillin fights Gabe Rosado / Konecny / Fernando Guerrero - and then turns down 1.4 to fight Matt Korobov?? Now Korobov is going to fight boring a$$ Andy Lee for the strap....SMH.... GGG is fighting Rubio.....and he is supposed to be the most feared yada yada...Soon as GGG has to make some adjustment and has to rely on his boxing IQ more so than his punch, then we can discuss him - I am realizing that a lot of the Euro fans that think their fighters are all time greats etc etc... are really die hard fans and they stand behind their fighters like they stand behind their Soccer / Football teams... I just hate when they start a argument, and can't finish it, but hey the sport is growing an I cannot be mad at that..

You make a lotta good points though you might find breaking it down into paragraphs useful.

Yeah - there's potentially a lo of good fights to be made and it's a time of real flux and oportunity in the MW division, which makes it really strange that Quillin and Jacobs (who could both potentially be significant players) just seem to be sat on their asses.

There's no news from either camp, despite Jacobs being the 'regular' WBA champ with the right to challenge GGG and the obligation to defend against Chudinov (which doesn't look like happening either) and Quillin having said he has 'bigger fights' in front of him - which I think everyone assumed was Jacobs.

And yet... nada. Quillin drops the WBO strap, it's starting to look like Jacobs might drop his WBA 'regular' title, yet neither have announced, or even look close to, any alternative fight(s). The shit's simply...bizarre.

I'm a Golovkin fan, but have to acknowledge that somehow, somewhere he needs to find a genuinely challenging opponent... consistently demolishing second tier opponents is a statement in itself, but ultimately I think he's gonna have to look to 168 in he wants to establish himself amongst the P4P elite.
