  • Comments Thread For: Josh Warrington Beats Down Dieli For Euro Crown

Leeds' Josh Warrington (19-0, 3 KOs) is the new European featherweight champion following an impressive demolition of usually durable Italian fighter Davide Dieli (15-4, 5 KOs) in just four rounds.

Fighting in front of a roaring local crowd of ecstatic supporters, Warrington went right into Dieli. He was using his jab to control the distance against a bit shorter opponent and was also effectively working his body in the first round. Dieli tried to trade blows with supposedly light-hitting Warrington in the next couple of rounds but was clearly on a losing end on these encounters.

    How awesome was that crowd?

It looked a great atmosphere on TV.

I think we might have found the new Ricky Hatton. That was like a Leeds United match. Pretty crazy stuff.

As for his boxing, this lad has really come on. He looks the part to me, couldn't really see any weaknesses. I think he'd give Lee Selby a hell of a fight.

warrington is decent, i bet he could beat crolla or whoever jo gallagher has got handilly. Although he's still quite young so they probably need to maintain him at the level he's at for a year or so.

Warrington was fighting a guy ranked outside the top 200,won't get too carried away yet.I don't think Dieli is even considered the best feather in Italy.everything he did he did expertly though, few weaknesses in the final exchanges but he got the job done,on the downside with the intervention of the referee though.it was kind of like the Froch Groves one stoppage, the guy was done and slumping another shot and it could have caused serious harm.

The fight and crowd was something else, the arena is built for acoustic concerts so as ***375;ou can imagine the sound carried well.incredible entrance gave me goosebumps watching.

Looking forward to Warrington taking on some bodies in the top 25,he has made a huge leap tonight.Dieli didn't carry a threat and Warrington got an extremely soft opponent for an ebu shot,be something else if he starts doing that to guys in the top 20.

Great night of potential talent last night with this showcase and Usyk fighting in Kiev.hopinh these two go on and challenge for world titles.

Stacked division, he'll do well to make a dent in it at world level.
