  • Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Canelo-Cotto Can Do Nearly 2 Million on PPV

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya has very high expectations for a potential fight between WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32 KOs) and former junior middleweight champ Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 32 KOs).

Last September, Canelo's PPV with Floyd Mayweather Jr. topped 2.2 million buys on Showtime. De La Hoya has since moved Canelo over to HBO, with a May fight against Cotto as the primary target for 2015. De La Hoya expects a number around the 2 million mark for Canelo vs. Cotto.

probably not, but just putting it out there might be a good thing. that pac floyd fight needs to happen once and for all. this is the only thing that stands to make that fight happen.

5 de mayo, and the rematch if it's a close fight in september.

No chance, if you ask me. It could maybe do a bit over a million. Maybe 1.1 to 1.5 at the absolute most. I just can't see 2 million. It damn sure won't even be near a million if they were to go up against Floyd on the same night, which, let's face it, is NOT going to happen. This is just reality, folks. I'd rather see Canelo/Cotto than any fight besides the obvious (Floyd/Manny), but reality is reality. And Oscar has lost touch with reality.

if canelo-cotto happens on cinco de mayo and chickenfloyd vs. anybody would also be on that date, cotto-canelo would get the better ppv buys...

only pac-chickenfloyd would do better than that...

Not sure about nearly 2 M, but this fight easily breaks 1 M and gets pretty 1.5 M buys.

His insinuation that Canelo is the A-side is hilarious. Cotto deserves the A-side and monetary advantage in negotiations.

No it won't Oscar, it won't even break a million buys.

Maybe if he stacked the card he could get 1.5
