It's a lot closer if you count the Mexican-Americans for the US, if you don't, it's clearly Mexico. That's not even counting the ones that would be champions if they hadn't gotten robbed (Vazquez, Beltran, Herrera, Silvestre),

GGG wants to be a star. I don't remember him saying he wanted to fight like an American.

Thanks! I think Errol Spence Jr. might be the top prospect in all of boxing, so the U.S. has a good one right there. Haven't seen much of the other ones though.

I had already forgot about the Beltran and Herrera fights. That's what they know happens eventually, people just forget about robberies. The Silvestre fight was close at least though. Beltran and Herrera were shamelessly robbed.

People do know that PR is also USA, so quit the separation. Also Mexican-Americans do not fight like native Mexicans, notably those that become champion fight more like Americans. The US came up with the most skills and craft as well as applicable techniques to the sport. US has the most interesting lore in the pugilistic sport, watch Gangs of New York then you understand why we are so infatuated with red and blue.

Anyway Mikey Garcia for instance have been trained to fight more American style. His family care for his success, so they taught him the most effective style, not the barbarism of Mexican style.

I enjoy both schools of boxing, I like variety. Watching blood sports or the classical elegance of a chess master dissecting his opponent are both equally enjoyable to me.

"Barbarism of Mexican style"? A lot of Mexicans don't choose to fight this way. They don't know any better. If you watch sparring footage of most Mexican fighters, it mostly consists of hitting a bag for hours on end. Their trainers don't really know what they're doing. You bring Mexicans here, they get trained here and they become great fighters in their divisions. Garcia, Herrera, Beltran, Carlos Molina, Gomez. Like 5-1 in the amateurs Carlos Molina beating Lara, and beating the piss out of Kirkland. Which one you think has more talent? Kirkland and Lara just have better training, but it doesn't help them much cause they are less talented. You're basically admitting in your opinion US fighters are better because they have better training, the way Cubans do. The fact that there is this big a discrepancy in training methods and Mexicans are still in the top 2 tells you everything you need to know. Nacho Beristein is Mexico's best trainer by a mile. Let that sink in for a little bit.

All the Mexican Americans play school sports, I was one of them. It's sad too because we're usually mixed and much bigger than the natives from MX. So much untapped potential, I tried to get my lil brother into boxing when he was 13, he was already 6'4 220 in 8th grade. I remember the late cut man Joe Souza saw him and his eyes lit up, my bro stuck to bball though cause all his friends were there.
