I think he was really affected by the aftermath of the Abraham fight. His Super 6 experience was so unlucky. He outboxes Froch in enemy territory but doesn't get the decision, he clearly won that fight IMO. Next as he is outboxing the tournament favorite in the 2nd fight (even dropped him), it again ends in a very unsatisfying manner. Then instead of getting credit for the performance, everybody focuses on whether he did or didn't fake the effects of an illegal blow. If you think about it, if he got the decision vs. Froch that he deserved and Abraham didn't hit him after he fell to the canvas, he would have been an undefeated WBC SMW champion with clear decision victories over Arthur Abraham, Carl Froch, and even Curtis Stevens. But we all know what happened instead.
He ducks Andre Ward, exits the Super 6, dumps Al Haymon, and signs with 50 Cent. That would ruin anybody's career.
His last 3 fights after Abraham have been on ShoBox, Unimas, and ESPN Friday Night Fights. His next fight next week is on ESPN again.
Fortunately, he dumped 50 Cent and re-signed back with Al Haymon. So things is looking up for him a lot more than before. And the success of his brother only helps.

So many people think he faked the Abraham shot, and I just can't believe that. He would have to be one of the most mentally weak world class fighters ever to deliberately shelve himself with a fake injury for like 2 years. Then, of course, he left Haymon for 50 Cent, which accounts for the last couple of years.
I don't know what he has at this point, but Dirrell is incredibly talented. I'd love if he could come back at least near his former potential.
