They can't. They hit balls for a paycheck.

Floyd gets hit in the balls for a paycheck, and he's still the highest paid athlete.
    No argument there, brother. Lol

We gonna act like all of Mexico wasn't behind Oscar De la Hoya and Canelo Alvarez when they were fighting Floyd? Boxing is one of the biggest sport in Mexico but yet they somehow missed the 2 highest selling fights of all time?
        1) No they didn't know. They watched the fight and forgot who the American guy he fought against was. "Mayweather? Which one was that? That black American guy? Which one."

It takes more then a fight to make a name stick. When the name sticks that's when you are a global star/star.

And I said two years, maybe now after Canelo they know him as the guy who fought De La Hoya and Marquez.

Wether you check the followers on twitter, facebook, instagram, etc. Floyd has the Joker beat everytime. Including the google searches and hits: https://www.google.ca/?gws_rd=ssl#q=...etes+worldwide
Twitter/Instagram/Facebook....thanks. Thats what I figured and that is all I wanted to know.

So twitter roughly used by 20% of Internet users. With US second to China with over 10% of global internet users. More than double that of the next in line.

Do the math and see how insignificant one's twitter following is as a mark of your global celebrity?

Also any idea how much something like twitter can skew search engine results? Every time there is a tweat which is then grows exponentially by re-tweets etc

Currently i live in Canada and i can tell you that no one here knows who Djokovic is. Tennis simply isnt a big sport here. And it isnt even a top 5 sport in the US either. Probably isnt that big in South America or even Africa either because its a ''rich people's sport''
Buddy I live in Toronto, and have for the last 13 years. A good half of my friends knows who Federer Nadal and Djokovic are and everyone knows the Williams sisters, and they are far from rich. And this is from a circle of friends who are immigrants from all over the place who don't even watch hockey. Stereotypical common Canadian knows more about tennis then you might think.

Milos Raonic is talked about all over TSN/CBC/CITY TV, outside of NHL players he is probably the most recognizable athlete in Canada! And he plays tennis.

We have the Rogers Cup for Christs sake...

It ain't hockey but everyone knows tennis.

And lastly I don't need to give you any stats. It's all common sense really.

Boxing even though a global is still a minor sport. So the chances of any boxer what so ever being known globally on a significant scale is very slim. So Mayweather being an American boxer who only fights in US and has zero endorsements is pretty much zero.

Tennis is a huge sport world wide, in Europe and in America and in South America. So just about any tennis player will be more known than a boxer, and the elite tennis players will most defentely take up the ranks of some of the most recognized names globally from any sport.

"There's nothing wrong with that." - Jamaican lady

Yes, Jamaican lady, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. And she says that SHE DOESN'T WATCH BOXING! What Floyd and his dong suckers have to realize is that boxing is a niche sport. Just because you make the most money doesn't mean you're the most popular.

I guess. I'm impressed that one woman's opinion has spawned this conversation. No one can really quantify popularity so I'm impressed with what she started.
