Four courageous Pinoy boxers kept our gold medal hopes alive with rousing victories in the quarter finals of the Asian Games boxing competition at the Soonhak Gymnasium in Incheon, South Korea.
Light flyweight Mark Anthony Barriega, bantamweight Mario Fernandez and middleweight Wilfredo Lopez all won their bouts to join lightweight Charly Suarez who advanced to the semi finals on Monday with an impressive victory over Iraq’s rugged Amar Hassan.
Suarez put on a masterful display to score a unanimous decision despite being penalized a point in the second round for what seemed like a minor infraction of failing to keep his head up.
