  • Comments Thread For: Michel: Artur Beterbiev Put Entire Division on Notice

Promoter Yvon Michel sees rising prospect Artur Beterbiev (6-0, 6KOs) as the next superstar of the light heavyweight division. On Saturday night, before 2,400 fans at the Bell Centre in Montreal, demolish former IBF champion Tavoris Cloud (24-3) in two rounds. Cloud went down four times before he was counted out for good in the second.

The entire team was shocked at the rapid pace that Beterbiev dispatched of Cloud, who went twelve rounds with Bernard Hopkins, Glen Johnson and Gabriel Campillo.

Cloud has not been the same since the Campillo fight - he has made his $ and does not seem interested anymore. He laid down, no veteran tactics, he did not try to see if Beterbiev could go some rounds , nothing.... Campillo started the downfall, Bhop put the nail in the coffin. Beterbiev did what he had to do - get him in there with Fonfara, that's a test..

Cloud fought like a guy who had never been in a tough spot before. To come up with his chin as he hooked like that, leaving himself totally prone to the counter hook, was what a rookie would do. It makes you question how tough his sparring has been historically. He should know how to handle a tight situation better than that as a guy having fought for a world title.

He got caught while trying to clinch and never recovered. Simple as that.

Kovalev is shook. He doesn't want to run into this guy again.

Cloud got up off the canvas three times.

He never "laid down", he was knocked down.

Exactly, I think he may have had his jaw broken in the first knockdown and then he wasn't right.

I'll be very interested in who he fights next.

Perhaps Campillo, because he needs some experience against slick boxers. And it wouldn't hurt to keep him busy against Dawson, Shumenov, Murat, Agnew, and Sillakh.

Someone like Fonfara or Chilemba would provide a tough test.
