Have there been heavy weight boxers who use the style: Counter puncher?

    Hello,

Have there been heavy weight boxers who use the style: Counter puncher?

This style needs a lot of feinting, movement and trickery, so how can a heavy weight boxer use it?
Can you give examples of heavy weight boxers who uses or used it?

    Thanks a lot.

Evander Holyfield was a pretty good counter puncher

archie moore and ezzard charles were likewise tremendous counterpunchers and boxers. moore had the true one punch power [especially at LHW,] and charles was a better technician.

i'll also add joe louis. he's known mostly for stalking behind a jab and on flatish feet, but he also had the ability to counterpunch. he always seemed to win exchanges.

Chris Byrd, problem was no power in those hands.

ali was obviouly a boxer primarily but he had excellent counter punching skills as well, his ability to bait and set traps was phenomenal. toney was probably the most pure counter puncher at HW, he was one of the best heavys in the world for a brief period of time too despite being way past his prime even then.

holyfield, byrd, charles, moore, walcott and louis were all good picks, walcott and charles in particular.

patterson was very good at baiting people, although he would usually try to beat them to the punch rather than make them miss and then make them pay after. he could counter well too though.

frazier is another good counter puncher, much of his offense came off the head movement.

There are a few heavyweights that spring too mind. They may bot be counter punchers in their primary form so to speak, but guys like Ali, Patterson, Frazier, Tyson and all other big guys that could move very well at their best could be great counter punchers.

Young Mike Tyson stands out for me, his entire offence was based on making the guy miss and then landing his own blows, and he was amazing at it in his early years. Even when the opponent wasn't actually throwing a shot, Mike would be moving his head or weaving still, it is a shame that he was such a master of a style like that but he let go of it as he got older.

Yeah and he was really successful at making dudes look amateurish. Plus, he fought dudes twice his size almost every time out. He deserves credit for that alone. Although, his wife was mildly annoying.
