Comments Thread For: Naazim: Algieri Will Not Be Easy Fight For Pacquiao

Veteran trainer Naazim Richardson, best known for his years of work with light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins, says WBO junior welterweight champion Chris Algieri (20-0, 8KOs) will be a very tough opponent for Manny Pacquiao, the WBO champion at welterweight.

Algieri moves up to a catch-weight of 144-pounds to challenge Pacquiao for his world title on November 22nd in the main event of an HBO Pay-Per-View card from Macau, China.

Naazim knows boxing a lot better than most of the posters here. He may be right or wrong about Algieri but he looks at a fighter based on the fighter.

Most of you just **** on them until after they win then jump on their bandwagon acting like you knew it all along.

When the power mysteriously vanishes, doesn't help either.

I lean towards experience too. There's alot of guys that "gave B-hop problems," but experience is the key factor. What Manny might be doing wrong is changing his winning formula. He's playing professional basketball, no training at the Wild Card Gym, etc. :

It seems these days even Manny Pacquiao is underwhelmed by the prospects of fighting Chris Algieri. Since agreeing to fight the nube of Long Island, Pacquiao has taken the job as coach of the KIA Sorrentos of the Philippine Basketball Association and then drafted himself in the first round. When the Sorrentos were playing practice games, however, Manny was too busy overseeing a billiards competition in General Santos City.

Another catch weight for the catch weight king Pacroid. ... This guy refuse to fight at 147lbs but his supporters feel he should get the same amount of money if he fights Floyd. I hope he never gets that fight, the test ducker doesn't deserve a shot. And by the way why hasn't f these so call fan demanded Pacroid fight the same level of competition Floyd's been fighting? If Pacroid isn't doing a rematch he's fighter bums like Rios. ......

At this point it's hard to tell how good Algieri actually is, but it's not hard to see how he's a stylistic challenge for Pacquiao. He's very sharp, he throws a lot, and he moves well. His head seemed to be clear after Provodnikov caught him so it looks like his chin is reasonable too. If he can make Manny work to close the distance and his own conditioning holds up then it could be an interesting fight.

Provodnikov was a very good win. It showed Algieri can handle high level pressure. I don't know that he should be fighting Manny Pacquiao so soon but he's no scrub.
