Comments Thread For: Details Remain Cryptic Surrounding Canelo 'Historic' Pact

For a move repeatedly referred to by all parties involved as ‘historic’, Golden Boy Promotions and HBO were awfully cryptic regarding any of the terms for Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez returning to the network.

Nevertheless, the news made for a big day as the agreement was formally announced during a press conference Tuesday afternoon at Golden Boy Promotions headquarters in Los Angeles.

“Today is a historical day in boxing. It’s always been my pleasure to work with a great young fighter like Canelo Alvarez,” Oscar de la Hoya, president of Golden Boy Promotions, stated during a media conference call immediately following the press conference. “There is something special about Canelo.

I've got the feeling that it will be Canelo vs Kirkland, I've heard some much negativity about the bout on the web that maybe GBP as listened to the people and will try to match him with Kirkland.

Plus if we get deep into it........................Why would Kirkland pull of last minute against Rosado when the fight was as long as I know signed, doesn't make any sense.

Canelo vs Kirkland would be a hell of a match.

It will be interesting to see who wins this... HBO with Canelo-Cotto on Cinco de Mayo 2015 at MSG or SHO with Mayweather-Khan on Cinco de Mayo at MGM. There is no way they directly compete with each other. Neither has the cojones.

From an outsider's POV, how could Mexico vs. Puerto Rico, most popular Mexican vs. most popular Puerto Rican, not win out? HBO would have to royally screw this up for that not to happen.

It's cryptic because Alvarez's money is going to be crap compared to every other PPV star. Cotto will get the lion share if they fight, I wonder how GB/Alvarez react to Cotto's boss ways.

Also Mayweather will fight on those dates as always, those dates are now engrained in to the American public that Mayweather is fighting. HBO will not want to compete unless Alvarez is just getting a 2 million pay day.

Because they would be competing with the 2nd most popular athlete in the USA in a fight in the USA.
