Everyone is saying that Mayweather Promotions has no fighters of note (other than Floyd) and that they're a failed company who can't promote or do this or that. But see the thing is, they aren't purposely even LOOKING for people to sign at this very moment until they get everything settled. It's not that Mayweather Promotion's stable is garbage because that's the best they could do, it's simply because they aren't set up 100% yet and they aren't looking. Guys like Ishe, Bey, Love just happened to be around and were influenced by the #1 fighter in the sport, so it was only fitting they joined to draw up some interest.
Remember when Floyd was in jail and his former friend 50 Cent went ahead and spilled the plans of ripping Floyd away from Al Haymon/Golden Boy/Schaefer and making "TMT Promotions", a joint owned promotional company that was being billed as "the future of boxing"? Remember how many boxers were literally running away from and breaking contracts from their promoters just to join the unlicensed, unconfirmed, barely in the beginning stages "promotional company"? The one that was hip, in style, and drew major headlines? Guys like Judah, Alexander, Broner, Gamboa, Dirrell, Kirkland, Billy Dib and so on?
All they needed to know was that 50 Cent (major rap artist) and Floyd Mayweather (Greatest boxer of all time) were forming a company and they came flocking over in the masses.
Essentially what I'm getting at is that I don't think Mayweather Promotions will have any trouble signing guys in the masses after Floyd retires and dedicates himself to the promoting game. Floyd Mayweather himself is enough of a celebrity, entertainer, and athlete to generate enough buzz for people to be interested in his company.
Roc Nation Promotions is also another name that I could see being a potential rival, because Jay Z is such a known figure he too will not have a hard time with future fighters joining his stable.
As for the Golden Boy? Well, Oscar is not really a celebrity or really known much outside of the boxing circle, but he's the face of the Los Angeles based company and for good reason. Lots of latinos to market towards.
So before you start bashing Mayweather Promotions about the lack of cards, the lack of fighters, the lack of events in general, just know, people, fighters rather, are willing to join in the dozens at the snap of a finger. They're just not set yet. Wait till Schaefer takes over and it'll be a complete takeover.
