Many pro boxers and analysts say Chris has a style that will give Pac trouble and not to count him out. You are looking off a record that is ******, watch tape dude and study fights, who gives Pac problems? stick and move boxers, Chris is one of the best stick and move boxers and he has height and reach on Pac, and some fast feet.

Resume's can be deceiving, Chris is no scrub, the Ruslan fight should tell you he is the real deal, he proved his worth, the moment a fighter overcomes adversity is the moment you know he is the real deal.

Other fighters who come across adversity crumble, remember Victor Ortiz vs Maidana?

Also Maidana and Rios both sparred Algieri and said they couldn't catch him he was very difficult to hit.

Algieri, the junior welterweight upstart who upset Ruslan Provodnikov in his last fight, will get a shot at Pacquiao’s welterweight title belt as well as the prestige that goes along with matching up against one of the sport’s biggest stars.

The problem, of course, is that Algieri, while a good fighter and competent professional, has absolutely no business sharing the spotlight with Pacquiao at this stage of either man's career.

Algieri is undefeated in 20 professional prizefights but has never competed at anything close to the level of a fighter like Pacquiao. Moreover, Algieri’s resume is paper-thin, save for his hotly contested and highly debatable split-decision win over Provodnikov in June.

So to be clear, those who argue Algieri earned his dream bout against Pacquiao by defeating Provodnikov would first have to convince many who watched the same exact fight that he deserved the nod in the first place.

Even so, has Algieri notched any other wins that would warrant the Pacquiao fight? A review of the names on his record suggests otherwise.

Moreover, there is nothing Algieri did in his fight against the limited brawler, Provodnikov, to make one believe he’d have any kind of success against the faster, stronger and more precise puncher, Pacquiao.

Pacquiao is arguably the greatest fighter of his generation. Oh sure, the 35-year-old has more losses than his chief rival to that claim, Floyd Mayweather, but Pacquiao’s greatest wins stand as a testament to what a fighter can achieve if he tests himself against the very best.

Whereas Mayweather has consistently sought out low-risk/high-reward ventures, Pacquiao has done the exact opposite.

Chris Algieri, his right eye a swollen, closed mess, did not look like a winner when the fight was over. But that was superficial. He had won a world title.

Algieri pulled a major upset as he outboxed Ruslan Provodnikov to win a split decision and a junior welterweight belt on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

With most of the 6,218 fans cheering on Long Island's Algieri, he survived two knockdowns in the first round to prevail in a fight that many also saw for the relentlessly aggressive Provodnikov.

In the end, two judges scored the bout 114-112 for Algieri, while the third scored it for Provodnikov, 117-109. ESPN.com had it for the heavier-hitting Provodnikov, 115-111.

Roach told me he recently talked to Pacman's promoter, Bob Arum, and Roach said that Algieri will get the nod to fight Manny.

"I told Bob, 'I don't like runners,' and Bob said you better find a way, that's who you're fighting," said Roach, the six time Boxing Writers Association trainer of the year.

Roach said he asked if there wasn't somebody more popular, or a better stylistic fit for the 56-5-2 Pacman, who last gloved up April 12, when he conclusively beat (UD12) Tim Bradley in a rematch tangle. After all, Roach offered, Provodnikov would love to clash with the Filipino icon. Nope, Arum said, according to Roach, that'd be a hard sell because he lost his last fight, to Algieri.

"I can't promote that," Arum said to Roach. "Bob likes Algieri, and he told me that's who we're getting."

No disrespect intended to the newly crowned WBO Junior Welterweight Champion Algieri. He’s a good fighter, has good boxing skills, as he showed against Ruslan Provodnikov.

But has Algieri really earned a shot at one of boxing’s biggest attractions?

Algieri lacks experience, we have yet to see him against elite opposition
. Pacquiao certainly fits the category of elite, some may even label him legendary.

On paper, many would think Pacquiao has the edge, mostly because no one really knows who Algieri is.

He is not popular, the biggest name Algieri beat (Provodnikov) is not even a household name.

Which brings up the reason why this is a lose-lose situation for Pacquiao.

Pay-per-view buys are going to be hard to come by with this fight. Rios-Pac did not do great numbers. Pacquiao will spend majority of his camp isolated in the Philippines, so the American public will not see him.

Algieri is a likeable guy, he does not have the douche-bag persona to sell a fight.

He could play the likeable underdog role, but that does not necessarily sell tickets, especially if his opponent Pacquiao, is widely admired across the globe.

At the end of the day, no one envisions Algieri as a serious threat. The ppv may not sell too well.

What if the unthinkable happens and Algieri manages to score the upset? The hailstorm of criticism would be tremendous.

It seems to me, just because people themselves don't know who Algieri is. They assume he is a nobody and not worthy to be in the ring with Manny Pacquiao.

Maybe you should do your homework on Algieri.

Let's start off with the most obvious and simple stuff. A 5ft. 10in. guy with 72in reach advantage. Against a 5ft 6in. with 67in reach. That's like Mayweather fighting a guy 6ft. tall with a 77in. reach advantage. HAVE YOU EVER seen Floyd fight such a guy??? Would he ever???? YA I DON'T THINK SO.

Even if we say Algieri doesn't know anything about boxing. He is still the bigger the guy.

Now let's move on to who Algieri is. He is a ISKA World Welterweight and WKA World Super Welterweight Champion. He is an undefeated kickboxing champion. With a record of 20-0. HE IS NOT NEW TO COMPETITION OR THE LIMELIGHT. He is now 20-0 in Boxing and holds a championship belt. Why does he hold a championship belt if he doesn't deserve to fight the best? I mean if you hold a championship belt. That means you earn the right to fight the best or defend it against the best right? What is he gonna do, have a championship belt and fight amatures?.

As someone said earlier on here he walks around 170 and he makes 140 easy. So making a catchweight of 144 is easier for him. It's no advantage to Pacquiao. As you Pacquiao haters try to convince yourself. Because your heads are so far up Mayweather's a$$. You worship anything he says.

In Algieri's last fight. He basically fought with one eye and Ruslan couldn't finish him. Algieri boxed him for 11 rounds perfectly. And remember. Ruslan is the guy that gave Bradley a ***in` war in the ring. Ruslan is no joke. Everyone knows that. So if Algieri did better against Ruslan than Bradley did. And you Pacquiao haters said Bradley was gonna dominate in the rematch with Manny. Why then, is the guy that had a easier night with Ruslan than Bradley did not a worthy opponent, or better yet a challenge to fight Pacquiao. BECAUSE YOU GUYS DON'T KNOW WHO ALGIERI IS??? That's a dumb reason and you guys know it.
And let's not forget Algieri has sparred with every big name in the sport.. Including Maidana who Mayweather ran away from and held for 12 rounds. Algieri doesn't fight like that. So the sparring Algieri did with Maidana was probably 100 times more exciting than what you guys paid $70 to watch Floyd do.

Seems a lot of people are saying Algeri deserves this shot. So I decided to see who some of the tops in the sport were fighting in their 21 st fight. Here it goes:

                Mayweather: Justin Juuko

                Manny: Chokchai Chockvivat

                Cotto: Kelson Pinto

                Canelo: Miguel Vasquez

Does this mean that Algeri has no chance? Of course not, because anything can happen. However, if he wins, it says more about Pacquiao, than it does about Algeri. This is just a classic lose-lose situation. If you win, so what? If you lose, OMG!
