Comments Thread For: Kirkland-Rosado Agreement Reach For November 8

Michael Miller, the legal adviser to junior middleweight contender James Kirkland (32-1, 28KOs), confirmed to BoxingScene.com that a deal has been reached for a showdown with Gabe Rosado (21-8, 13KOs) on November 8th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The agreed upon weight is 156-pounds plus one.

The fight will open up the HBO broadcast, which is headlined by a highly anticipated light heavyweight unification between Bernard Hopkins and Sergey Kovalev. The event is co-promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and Main Events.

WOW... awesome news. This is going to be a sick fight for real. Hard to pick who I'm siding with since I respect both. I think, ultimately, I'll have to go with Kirkland due to Rosado's comments about Triple G.

SOO WAR KIRKLAND!!!! This is going to be a war for real.

I'm glad it will be sanctioned by a boxing commission and not by BKB. That way it has real implications and significance in the boxing world... BKB fights do not count towards their boxing records which sucks (as well as titles of course).

This has the potential to be fight of the year. Rosado has a good fighting style and If you were entertained by Kirkland vs Tapia. This could be even better. I definitely would go with Kirkland on this one. It should be very entertaining.

It would be somewhat devastating to see either guy take an L at this juncture of their career. But it's a great fight to make, so be it.

EDIT: someone explain the ramifications of 156lbs, PLUS ONE. Please.

        Wouldn't that be 157?

Going with the faster, sharper, more mobile puncher of the two in Rosado. Kirkland looks slower and more shopworn looking every time I see him fight, which has been infrequent over the last three years.

Both guys have the luxury of an extra pound, but there is likely some financial clause where the guy at 157 gets a few K less for doing so.

Why did they make it at a catchweight though.
