Comments Thread For: James De La Rosa Drops, Shocks Alfredo Angulo

MGM Grand, Las Vegas - After suffering back to back defeats at junior middleweight, Alfredo Angulo (22-5, 18KOs) moved up to middleweight division [catch-weight of 162] and lost yet again, by way of unanimous decision to heavy underdog James De La Rosa (23-2, 13KOs). The scores were 98-90, 96-92 and 99-89.

Angulo started slow and allowed De La Rosa to snag the first round. De La Rosa continued to box smart in the second and scored a knockdown at the end with a double lefthook. Angulo continue to come forward in the following rounds and had no problem eating punches to land a few of his own. During the sixth, De La Rosa started unloading with shots on Angulo and opened up a cut around his right eye. During the seventh, Angulo lost a point after being repeatedly warned for landing low blows.

Angulo has been finished for a while now. Time to hang them up.

Angulo is going to be in bad shape after boxing if he continues much longer in his career

Boxing Scene is 0-1 in predicting the mismatches on this card.

Angulo is now looking older than his 31. He took punishment from lara and Alvarez on his 2 last fights. He started slow this fight and when he really wanted to change gears he just couldn't do it (looks even slower than before probably because he climbed another division). Only on few occasion got solid and connected Dela Rosa and it was only at rounds 9 and 10 that "Perro" hurt the Texan and when it looks Angulo was close to KOing DLR, Alfredo missed one or two punches that he had in the past. I think retirement is coming soon for Angulo (I still believe the year he spent unfairly on prison for an expired visa took a lot from a younger Angulo)

I think it's time for Angulo to call it a day and retire.

Angulo always had trouble with good boxers. Even Cintron boxed his way to victory versus Angulo. I do agree that he has not looked the same since the Kirkland fight and definately since the Lara fight.
