Comments Thread For: De La Hoya Backs Quillin's Decision To Vacate Title

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya fully supports the recent decision by Peter Quillin (31-0, 22KOs) to vacate the WBO middleweight title.

The WBO had ordered Quillin to face mandatory challenger Matt Korobov. A new player to the boxing scene, Roc Nation Sports, threw down $1.9 million, at the WBO's purse bid, to secure the promotional rights to Quillin-Korobov and planned to stage the fight on November 8th.

It does sound like Oscar has gotten on the same page with Haymon, I think they kind of need each other for right now so that is probably a good move.

Next week we'll hear that Quillin vacated because Korobov should have brought a bigger payday.

Quillin decided to decline the career high payday to fight his Mother instead

Rumors have been floating around that Quillin may be fighting his Mom in a first ever "Mother VS Son" Prize fighting event.

When asked about fighting his own flesh and blood Mother Quillin stated "Look she's a young hungry Lion, I can't overlook her. I mean any opponent at this stage in my career is a tough fight. I can't overlook no opponents. Ain't nobody heard of Korobov, my fans don't want to see it. He's a European fighter. Why support foreign fighters? I'm American I support America."

This is one of those things I totally don't understand, the one thing peter had was one of the main titles. Thos would have gave him a shot at golovkin for sure, now he has nothing GGG wpuld want. Peter is a huge risk to any fighter but lacks the popularity, I know he has fans but not a huge following.

So you turn down 1.4 millions for your wife and kids? Huh?

This **** is a joke and either Haymon ****ed him or Quillin is quite possibly the dumbest boxer alive.

What's Oscar supposed to say? GB is walking a line with Haymon/Showtime these days. It's definitely a fractured relationship that will continue to exist for another year out of mutual necessity.

I just can't see Jermain Taylor being able to make a close enough fight with Sam Soliman in order for them to rig a decision for Taylor. I do see Sam taking his title to the highest bidder being Golovkin or Jacobs/Quillin. Sam needs a unification fight to put his mando with N'Dam/Stevens on hold. You would think with that mando, Haymon would avoid the IBF title altogether though. That said, the winner of Quillin/Jacobs will probably face Alfredo Angulo assuming he wins tonight. Haymon could also move Lara & Trout up to MW to make room for Charlo/Williams/Wade/Harrison/Gausha.
