Comments Thread For: Ruslan Chagaev-Luis Ortiz To Get Ordered on Monday

MGM Grand, Las Vegas - BoxingScene.com was informed by Gilberto Mendoza Jr., the VP of the World Boxing Association, that his organization will issue letters on Monday - ordering a mandatory fight between WBA 'regular' heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev (33-2-1, 20KOs) and mandatory challenger Luis Ortiz (22-0, 19KOs).

Chagaev captured the 'regular' title with a twelve round majority decision win over Fres Oquendo in July. Ortiz picked the WBA's interim-title on Thursday in Las Vegas, with a first round TKO of Lateef Kayode. Wladimir Klitschko is the WBA's 'super champion' at the weight.

      When are they going to order Lebedev-Kalenga, Jacobs-Chudinov, Mayweather-Thurman, Vargas-Herrera, Abril-Perez, Uchiyama-Vasquez, Walters-Cuellar, Quigg-Cermeno, McDonnell-Parejo, Kono-Sanchez, Reveco-Saengthep, and Rossel-Petalcorin?

17 weight divisions, 13 interim champions (plus a 14th interim champion retired this week and vacated his title). Disgusting.

The WBA Interim and the WBA Regular champions are unifying? What a giant breakthrough in boxing.

I'm looking forward to this one.I want heavyweights to start fighting each other again, I'm very bored of the "Wladimir lottery" where the next millionaire loser is selected.

People are whining so much about Pac-Algieiri why do they want to see Mayweather-Thurman? That's an even larger gap in resumes.

I think this is a step in the right direction, two belt holders fighting each other to determine who will fight the champ, nothing wrong in this case...

The real question though is what happens afterwards. As soon as Klitbro absorbed Povetkin.... they had a vacant WBA regular title... these guys will never stop churning them out. There was no need for an interim or a regular title holder

It's called business. If you were on the WBA board of directors, would you want one sanctioning fee per division, or three?

For the fans, and the purists, it's egregious, but for the WBA it makes too much sense. Especially since boxing is a niche sport with zero oversight.
