Comments Thread For: Garcia: Golovkin is Hittable, Rubio Must Pressure Him

MGM Grand, Las Vegas - Trainer Robert Garcia rarely has the luxury of an easy day at the office. But on November 8th at the StubHub Center in Carson, Garcia will have a very tough task at hand when his fighter Marco Antonio Rubio (59-6-1, 51KOs), the WBC's interim-middleweight champion, challenges unbeaten WBA/IBO king Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (30-0, 27KOs) in an HBO televised main event.

That's not Rubio's style. He would've got flattend by David Lemieux if he had tried to pressure Lemieux early in their fight. He's a counter puncher with short range shots.

My gameplan would be to smoother GGG punches. Just like Kell Brooks did with Shawn Porter

Smothering, getting dirty on the inside and ruining his rythym is the best bet. Though Porter was wild and wasteful with his punches, GGG is much more methodical.

Yup, step into his offense and **** up his distance. Like Mayweather does.

That's the only thing to try. He's already proven to beat the other styles guys have tried. I think Ward could do it, but he's too good for Rubio to manage it. Not even close.
