How is it that people still don't understand the story?

It is not about boxing/sport, but politics. Showtime vs HBO. Arum vs Mayweather. Plus the matter of the purse split. Plus all the other aspects of a fight negotiation. Ring size, gloves, officials. Plus Mayweather's multi-fight contract with Showtime. It goes on and on, really.

That doesn't mean that a fight can't still possibly be made. But there are many obstacles in the way. I think it'll be a true shame if that fight never happens. It'll sort of be a black eye on this particular era of boxing. It sucks that the business and politics of boxing has gotten to such a degenerate state as this.

However, it isn't simply a matter of signing the contracts in this case. Mayweather and Pacquiao are both independent franchises, controlled by adversarial groups. There's the matter that neither group would want to sacrifice their cash cow. There's also the matter of the things I mentioned above, and some other matters that I have overlooked/left out.

Hopefully the fight could be made as the last fight on Mayweather's Showtime contract, for example.
