No he has to have the mouthpiece in his mouth. Look back at douglas vs tyson, Tyson struggled more to get his mouthpiece and blames that for not getting up in time.

Tyson was completely out of it, and the ref reached to 10 with Tyson still on his knees.

Here Ortiz was up at 9. If the mouth piece was a problem he could have deducted a point like they did for Corrales when he kept spitting out the mouth piece against Castillo.

I know boxing today is corrupt, but there should at least be a rule where a Ref's call like this can be overridden, accept the mistake on the spot, and have the fighters continue to fight. I don't care who the fighters are, but they both train their ass off and shouldn't be ruined by a terrible call like this.

Unbelievable! Refs continue to ruin this sport. Yes, it was a good shot. Yes, he should have gotten off his knee earlier but come on. I was rooting for Matthysse, I'm a fan and I'm far from happy about this one. I wanted to see a full fight.
