Just a thought, but I always felt that that was a ridiculous amount that Roc Nation bid on that Quillin/Korobov fight. Quillin has yet to headline a card and even hard core boxing fans don't really know much about Korobov. There is no way Roc Nation was going to make a profit on that fight, in fact they were going to lose money, and that is not the type of thing a company like that is interested in. So is it possible that they had some inside info that Quillin/Korobov was never going to happen so they jumped in with this ridiculous offer that they knew that they were never going to have to pay, for a quick chance to get some free publicity, and announce their interest in the sport of boxing. Am I right or am I possibly over thinking this? I think the confirmation of this is the Stiverne/Wilder purse bid, if Roc Nation doesn't make at least a similar offer then I think it is obvious that we all have been "had" by Jay z.
Did Jay z pull one over everyone?

It's possible. But I believe that RocNation was generally interested in the fight. Especially since Quillin is based in NY and it's against a Russian fighter, which there is a Russian enclave in NY. -
It's an interesting theory but Golden Boy did bid $1.2 million on this fight and did promote the Russell, Jr. vs. Lomachenko fight after winning the purse bid. But it does seem that Roc Nation Sports had an idea to stick it to Al Haymon. I'm still surprised that Peter Quillin didn't take the fight. Now, I'm sure that Quillin and his team will say this will make them the mandatory for Gennady Golovkin but are we really suppose to believe that Quillin wants to fight GGG?Comment

My theory is that Haymon paid off Quillan to vacate the belt - I think Haymon is trying to show Roc Nation that he can get fighters to vacate belts so they better not bid on fights which involve his fighters.. it's a powermove by Haymon in my opinion, not by Jay-z. Question is how much did he pay Quillan or did he convince Quillan just through negotiating. I'm guessing it would have taken at least half a million for that belt to be dropped but who knows?Comment

This has nothing to do with Roc Nation tbh. Since Roc Nation won the purse bid then this fight would have been televised on HBO. That was the issue here. It has nothing really to do with Roc Nation if you really think about it.Comment

I think with this pursue they pushed Haymon in an uncomfortable situation.
Before the pursue:
A: Haymon lets the fight happen and risk a possibly Jacobs VS Quillin fight
B: Haymon forces Quillin to vacate his belt, in change he gives more money (still under a million or maximum about a million to Quillin) for fighting Jacobs.
Quite obvisous what he would chose.
After this pursue:
A: Haymon lets the fight to happen --> maybe he can depose from the Jacobs-Quillin fight.
B: Force Quillin to vacate in change he has to pay a lot more than in normal conditions, (without Roc Nation and the mega pursue) he would have to.
He chose the second finally but this is an uncomfortable situation for Haymon as well because without the big money what Roc Nation suggested to his fighter, he would have to pay less to him for the Jacobs fight and maybe for the vacate. I don't know if Jay-Z did this with intentionnaly or not, but since they are promoters (yes Haymon is a promoter as well) and business men I can imagine everything.Comment
