i dunno, if lacy was able to get off "A" punch Calzaghe might have been saying something different.

but the thing is lacy when he did throw, he had nothing on his punches, and the ones that had steam on they cooled down the people at ringside as he missed and whiffed all night long.

lacy has power, calzaghe just took it all away be smothering holding at the right times and landing a blitzkreig of punches on lacy at will... tough to have any power when your getting your ass handed to you....

Two things...

-A fighter with that type of confidence WILL say things like that to hype themselves up and possibly because they believe it is true...nothing wrong with that too...

-When a fighter goes into a fight, known as a power puncher and doesn't KO his opponent, that doesn't ALWAYS mean his power is overrated. In this particular case, Lacy could only land 3 or 4 CLEAN head shots (that I counted) throughout the entire fight. Every other punch by Lacy was a missed punch or a pushed punch. Lacy has great power at 168, but only when delivered properly. Fighting Joe, we found out that he has a hard time getting that great power when he is chasing his opponent who moves. When you are in that boat, you have to make some tactical adjustments.

The breakdown of the fight was simply Calzaghe fighting a brilliant fight vs Lacy's type of style, and Lacy not being able to adjust his technicalities to deliver and defend.

Exactly, no matter how much respect you REALLY do have for your opponent deep down inside...in any sport, atheletes do things to hype themselves up...Joe just so happened to do it verbally on camera...plus his blood pumping with confidence and his home crowd backing his every move, etc...

You really have to pump yourself up...

Now I am not saying Joe is "wrong"...no one can really tell except for him since he is the one taking Lacy's punches

however

to me the problem was that he was NOT taking Lacy's best, because technically Lacy just couldn't deliver them vs Joe's style...and Lacy has to set himself up to throw a punch, EVERY time he set himself up after a clinch or exchange, you will notice that Joe quickly pops him with a jab, right hand, or combination and Lacy has to defend and reset himself, then popped again...

just beaten to the punch
