Was Freddie Roach wrong on saying Bernard Hopkins should retire

After he lost to Calzaghe, Hopkins was then going to fight Pavlik. He then was trained by Roach and Roach refused to train him and told him to retire.

So the Hopkins decided to train with Richardson and later on he broke the record of being the oldest boxer to win a world title and to unify world titles.

So was Roach absolutely wrong on Hopkins??????

he's not techincally wrong for suggesting bernard to retired. its not like bernard is only 23 or something.

He's still winning titles, making money and beating half-decentish people.

TS was saying the time when bernard lost to calzaghe which was back in 08. so thats why i said roach is not technically wrong for suggesting bernard to hang it up. if we're talking about now then of course not, bernard can still fight and looks healthy.

Nothing particularly unreasonable about suggesting a 43 year old fighter should retire. Given his own circumstances Roach might have stronger views than others on the matter.

No he wasn't and IMO based on Roach interviews, he should retire from coaching earlier than Hopkins from boxing. That tells a lot.

He only trained with Roach because Richardson suffered a stroke (or heart attack I can't remember which). Richard Schaefer suggested he should retire as well and so has Richardson. Basically Hopkins doesn't like being told what to do. If everyone tells him to keep fighting he'll probably retire
