He's beating some really mediocre fighters that have lost to Campillo and Cleverly, who Kovalev slaughtered. Kovalev is by far the best fighter Hopkins has fought since Pascal, and maybe even more dangerous than Pascal.

Thing is, Hopkins has been here so many times, and no one can be sure how Kovalev will handle the moment. I can't bring myself to say who wins this fight with any surety.
This ^. I'll never write Hopkins off, well just because he's beat the odds so many times before, but his last quality win was Pascal 3 frickin' years ago, and Pascal - basically the same Pascal that was beaten by Froch - ain't that good either, and is far less dangerous than Kovalev.

Pascal got most of his accolades for beating a prime Dawson but TBH, not only was Dawson incredibly lacklustre in that fight, had the cut not happened it was starting to look like he might be able to turn it around in the last coupla rounds.

WRT to Kovalevs inside fighting, I don't think it's a strong point, but he's fully capable of scoring game changing punches at point blank range... check out the first Lonnie B KD, the first Campillo KD and the first Sillakh KD - all originated in crosses scored while he was almost nose to nose - each time the fight ended very shortly after.

Don't get me wrong... I'm far from confident over the result of this fight, mainly because of the Legend that is BHops, but if I try to put that aside I can only see Kovalev winning. When he chooses Kovalev can throw 100+ punches a round and that kind of volume combined with good accuracy and the kind of hurtful power he displays will ultimately simply overpower Hopkins IMO.

OTOH if there is anyone who can spoil or blunt Kovalevs offense at 175 it has to be B'nard... if he can survive the first 6 or 7 rounds there is a chance of him stealing later rounds with good timing and the appropriate spoiling techniques.

Whatever. I agree with Hopkins - this is one of the biggest and most significant fights of the year.. whilst the two biggest stars of the sport are fighting guys who weren't even considered top contenders (though obviously Maidana II is a far better fight on paper than Pac - Aligeri), 49 Y/O Hopkins is fighting a guy who's considered one of the two toughest fights it's possible for him to make.

Jeez... Looks like we know who's going to be on suicide watch if Kovalev beats Hopkins.

You're really setting yourself up for failure, judging by your emotional attachment to this fight, and anyone who thinks Hopkins will lose.

Good luck and I better see you giving Kovalev credit once he walks out of that ring with 3 titles!

On another hand: Hopkins will have to throw some punches, eventually...
But if Kovalev fights at BH's pace he loses.

Wouldn't be surprised If Kov does beat him bad.

But If Mayweather allows Maidana to wear his commission approved gloves, Floyd loses.
