No. Gym wars is what seperates boys from men. Real men do gym-wars while softies do Sissy-Sparring. The great fighters of the past pretty much all did gym-wars.

Sometimes going to war in the gym only benefits those outside the ring and get to watch. You get people like Benn who were clever enough to realise they could only raise it a finite number of times and didn't want to waste it in the gym. I've been at a couple of closed spars between good domestic fighters where they have definitly taken a couple of fights off their respective careers. A close friend of mine (went 10-0 as a pro before retiring through a multitude of injuries) was a bit of an urban legend in the gyms in the 90s for having taking people to school with a style were he didn't take much in return and he took many of fighters primes, including his own.

Matthysse is coming off a war with Molina and sparring with Abregu, he's at the level and I like him to win.

Ortiz has a puncher's chance, albeit a good one.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. Light sparring, open workouts, press tours and tv shows is the reason champs are allowed to cherry pick.

They're simply not that tough anymore. But they are rich and have inhouse beauticians to make sure they are red carpet worthy.

Once Floyd, Manny and Gardashian etc all **** off, it may become a sport again, not a soap opera.

I think its a bit early for a statement like that. Lets see how he does in his next fights.

Indeed. There's a pretty recent clip in youtube somewhere, one of the guys sparring Maidana, maybe Mikey or Dulorme, said something along the lines of "Chino doesnt spar, he fights".
                      Edit:
ok, it was Chris Algieri. Smart guy. He siad, "He spars like he fights"... "You dont spar Marcos Maidana, you fight him"
