I just think it was ignorance on the part of most people. here was a guy who had made so many defences of his title, albeit against only decent opposition, and yet people were writing him off as a bum. far too many people make judgements without even seeing the fights of a certain boxer, or just simply hating. Calzaghe's handspeed was mentioned a few times, but it was largely overlooked, and those slaps were pretty damn hard too. Maybe this will make people think twice about writing a champion off again, unfortunately some people will never learn, and the name calling will continue.
