Joe Calzaghe is a British boxer of half Italian and half Welsh descent, based in Wales. He was born on March 23, 1972, at Hammersmith Hospital, London, UK. Joe's father Enzo was born in Sardinia but had already spent many years living in England.

When Calzaghe was two years old the family moved to South Wales, from where Calzaghe's mother hailed. He is sometimes referred to as the "Italian Dragon" as a nod to his mixed heritage (the dragon being a Welsh emblem), or the "Pride of Wales".

Really interesting thread because I can kinda relate it to my own country, the Philippines. There are many different type of Pinoys like Visayan, Ilocano, Tagalog, Cebuano, etc., etc. in an country with over 7000 islands. Each with their own dialect and very proud of their background. Alot of rivalries between these Pinoys too but againts non-pinoys we all come together and support our man. Manny Pac is Visayan. Visayans are known for being humble yet tough and rugged having alot of heart. Most of the Pinoy boxers that we see now are Visayan.

The Welsh are one of the 7 tribes of Gaels. The others are Irish, Scots, Cornish, Galician, Bretons, and Manx. Although part of Great Britain, like Scotland, they speak their own language and have their own culture. Anyway, Calzaghe is Italian, raised in Wales.

It is indeed funny how the rascism of the mainland Britain and the hypocrisy of their media works.

In truth Cali deserved a better treatment from these B?>tards than what they treated him. He's no big name in Brit and is just dismissed as another fighter.

It's funny how the hypocrisy sets in when he wins against Lacy when we all know had he lost he would have been labeled that "welshman" lost.

Now they're saying that "brit" won.

Rascism and hypocrisy at its best.
