So is Eddie Hearn actually the man who decides what gets shown on Sky Sports now? They might as well just call Matchroom what it is; Sky Sports Boxing. Very unhealthy for British boxing.

Matchroom have an exclusive contract with Sky Sports. But I guess Sky wanted Groves back, so they did a deal and put several Matchroom fighters on the card.

Makes sense to keep this supermiddleweight Froch, Groves , Degale , P Smith, Fielding and C Smith merry go round all on one channel. A bummer for boxnation but as sky also got the rights to Abraham vs Smith im not suprised they got it.

Adam Smith is the head of Sky Sports boxing but Eddie and Matchroom sport was the only promoter given a contract when the old one ended which also involved Warren, Maloney, Hennessey and Hatton etc thats why Warren bailed and made Boxnation with his investors that Maloney and Hatton ended up signing with him and Hennessey cut a deal with Channel 5 and Boxnation. You have to remember Eddie has the rights to Arthur Abraham vs Paul Smith from Sauerland so he probably cut the deal for Groves vs Rebrasse at the same time. Killed 2 birds with one stone.

Yeah I knew all that. My point was that Hearn is blatantly more than just a promoter selling fights to Sky, he is basically their match fixer. Sky isn't a broadcaster in the UK with this arrangement, it is basically the promoter. Not a great situation, it's a blatant monopoly.

It is a monopoly. But it's not down to Eddie Hearn. Sky have chosen him to deliver their content for them. Simple.

So if Groves wants to fights on Sky, his promoter will have to work with Eddie to figure out some kind of undercard/co promotion agreement.

They do this, unless it's in like extreme cases - say, David Haye wants a fight.

Id rather see Matchroom as a monopoly than listen to Frank Warren promote ****ty fights that the fans don't want and then not pay fighters - e.g. Leonard Bundu. If it wasn't for Eddie the UK boxing scene would be less than average at this moment in time, he has revived British boxing.
