Garcia Returns November 1st on Showtime

Roberto Garcia Returns November 1, No Opponent Named Yet

Welterweight Contender Roberto Garcia has really been on a hot streak as of late. Since losing to Antonio Margarito back in 2010, he has reeled off eight consecutive victories. He last fought in July and won a unanimous decision over the hard punching Breidis Prescott in an impressive showing.

Since signing with manager Al Haymon, Garcia has been busy and fighting often. He has had three fights already this year and will be returning to the ring once more before the year is out.

One rumor that was swirling around was that Garcia may be fighting Keith Thurman in October. When asked about the rumor Garcia answered, “No we haven’t heard that, it kind of like I guess died down or whatever. They just told me some good news about three or four days ago. They called me and told me I have a date which is Novemeber 1 in Chicago.” As far as the opponent, Garcia said, “No named opponent yet, but that doesn’t matter. That’s never really mattered about who I’m fighting. I’m glad I got the green light that I’m going to be fighting. That’s all I really got right now, is the date, and I’m really happy about that.”

Garcia said that the fight will be held at the UIC Pavillion and that it is rumored that it will be televised on Showtime as part of a triple header.

Garcia will be relocating for the preparation of this fight and will be working with a new trainer.

“My family and I will head out to Vegas in three weeks and I am going to be in camp for seven weeks in Vegas.”

“That’s where my trainer is now Roberto Norris. He‘s over there and he relocated back to Vegas, so I follow my coach wherever he goes,” he explained.

Garcia seems to be on the rise as of late, and he could present problems for a lot of welterweights out there.

Although he has found this recent new found exposure, he realizes that he can’t take his eyes off the prize. “I’m just a Texas boy trying to make it. That’s the bottom line. I try very hard and I give it my best. If this can bring more fortune to my home and my family then that’s what I’m doing. We just have a mentality, we work hard and we believe in ourselves. It’s not necessarily ****y, it’s just confidence. I think I belong here. I believe that in my heart. I’m just going to keep trucking. I got nothing to lose and everything to gain.”

Sorry papo but Garcia lost to Prescott and is going to replace Soto-Karrass as Al Haymon's merry go round fighter.
