Comments Thread For: Team Castaneda Hunt For Answers in Lopez Scandal

By Jake Donovan - Not even the lowest point of Roberto Castañeda’s career, when the losses were piling up with alarming regularity, had the effect that he has been left with in the aftermath of his recent loss to Jose Lopez.

The 23-year old journeyman knows his place in the sport, at least to a degree. He understands that the deck will be stacked against when matched against house fighters and more popular opponents. But nothing in his five-year (and growing) career prepared him for what he was forced to experience on August 16 in the days since.

“It’s been more than a week, and I can still say we’ve never been through anything like what happened in Puerto Rico,” insists his adviser, Alex Camponovo.

Castañeda had lost five of his last six bouts – and all six career losses within his past nine starts – prior to his showdown with the unbeaten Lopez earlier this month in Caguas, Puerto Rico. His first defeat actually came in his own Mexicali hometown, when he was stopped in five rounds by perennial super flyweight contender Felipe Orucuta more than two years ago. Make it a no contest and ban everyone involved, hopefully they can arrange a rematch at least

Ramirez Sr 2 old 2b reffing...I looked up the rule on when both fighters go down & essentially it says the knockdowns cancel one another out & that the score goes back 2 10 - 10 & the the winner is determined after the knockdowns, ie: 10-9...sorry if it's confusing, bad day...

Lopez won that fight by a hair but he won. Have the top three judges score it again and I'm sure they will agree. Then go ahead and fire the culprits involved.

The official cards had it a draw, minus the tampering. Anywhere outside of Puerto Rico and Castaneda would have won by TKO in the first round on the three knock down rule. Lopez got some home town cooking with a big spoon.

I have nothing but respect for both of these fighters. They put on one of the best fights of the year. The disgrace is the fat men with the cigars.

DIRTY, GRIMY & DISTGUSTING move by Peñagaricano(Head of the P.R boxing commission) to try to have the judge change the scoring on his card to favor the local fighter & when the judge refused, Peñagaricano changed it himself!!! & ¿To give a fighter a 8 count at the end of the round while SITTING ON HIS STOOL!?(The rest between the 1st &2nd round lasted over 1:30) & in another round tbd local fighter was not cut, nor was he bleeding from his nose, mouth or ear, yet when Lopez was CLEARLY TIRED the ref calked time out & had 2 Doctors check him out & that took at least another 30 seconds. The ref also did a S H I T T Y job..
