Comments Thread For: Lomachenko, Shiming Top Pacquiao-Algieri Undercard

In recent years, Top Rank has come under fire from the boxing world for what is perceived as a minimal effort in putting together compelling undercards for its major events. The working theory, so believes Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum, is that while the sport’s hardcore fanbase cares greatly about the undercard, the large majority of fans are tuning in for the headlining act.

Such logic has led to top-heavy pay-per-view events accompanied by a supporting cast often met with a collective shrug of the shoulders from prospective buyers. Still, it never prevents Arum from proudly hyping up the fighters who appear on such cards.

Seems like a good fight for loma tbh. A good increase in competition. But I wish arum would stop trying to make shiming the star that he isn't.

No matter who wins, Top Rank wins.

Pacquaio gets back on his streak, or Algieiri becomes an overnight star, either way setting up big future fights.

Lomachenko gets massive exposure, or gets upset by a solid Asian fighter in front of an Asian audience, either way setting up big future fights.

& of course Shiming gets showcased at home.

Good investment strategy by Bob. Boxing's future is international.

Not only is this card stacked top to bottom but these are competitive fights

The article says that the opponents combined record for Pac, Loma and Zou is 94 and 1

Shiming is a star. Whether he is a great fighter is another question. He has some positives going for him but I'm far from sold on him. One thing is for sure: it would be WAY too early for him to challenge the Estrada vs Segura winner after this fight.

Another spot wasted on shiming. They need to find a way where he's left off the American viewing but still on the Chinese PPV.

Good flyweight fights thrown to the wind. Thank god for beIN

This is what I'm talking about! F Shimming! I'm pumped for Lomachenko though.

Yeah that's pretty amazing. This is how it should be done.
