  • Khan-Brook On The Same Card, Mega Fight In May

Amir Khan v Kell Brook lined up for next May.

Exclusive: Kell Brook and Amir Khan are each one fight away from a British blockbuster showdown at Wembley as Carl Froch's Las Vegas dream dies

Kell Brook will face Amir Khan in another blockbuster night at Wembley Stadium next May if the undefeated International Boxing Federation welterweight champion comes through the first defence of his title at the Sheffield Arena on Dec 6.

Promoter Eddie Hearn revealed the news on Friday as part of a series of top-level fights planned for the next eight months, including the next move for two-belt super-middleweight world champion Carl Froch.

In the wake of the enormous success of Carl Froch v George Groves at Wembley Stadium in May this year, watched by a sell-out crowd of 80,000, negotiations are already under way for both Brook and Khan to face their respective opponents at the Sheffield Arena in December, and should both win, they will be matched to meet at Wembley Stadium in May 2015.

The Arena in Sheffield holds 12,000 seats, and a sell-out looks guaranteed. That card, as well as Wembley Stadium, could be a pay-per-view event on Sky.

Hearn told The Daily Telegraph that the Sheffield card will also include another eagerly-anticipated rematch, between former light-heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly and Tony Bellew. The pair fought for Cleverly’s World Boxing Organisation 175lb title in October 2011 which the champion won by majority decision. Both men have moved up to cruiserweight since.

Hearn also said that “Carl Froch against Julio Cesar Chavez in Las Vegas now looks unlikely and we are looking for Carl to defend his WBA and IBF titles in London, probably the O***8322; Arena, against James DeGale in February”.

Brook clearly wants to settle a rivalry with former light-welterweight world champion Khan which stretches back to sparring against each other during their amateur days. “This is the beginning. I want to defend my title and bring big crowds to Sheffield. I want to display my skills at the highest level.

“I’ll defend my title on Dec 6 at Sheffield Arena. I’m excited to defend my title in front of a big, full crowd. I want to give back to the fans who have supported me for many years now,” he told The Daily Telegraph.

If Khan wins in December against Alexander or Guerrero then it'd be Mayweather he'd be targeting and most likely even getting in May and not Kell Brook. I mean why would a man in Khan's position (granted he wins in Dec) against a solid WW, would want Kell over Floyd?

      ^^^ agreed with the above.

Kell has a shot at Khan now, make the fight for December at the O2 arena.

But brook has a history of ducking & fighting bums and I'm certain it's going to continue that way now that he's got a belt

Khan only wants the Mayweather fight for a big payday and a potential Brook fight, selling out Wembley Stadium, is a bigger fight financially. Also, Brook is the one who's calling the shots now. He's got the belt and has options at 147 while Khan is begging for fights against contenders on the off chance that he gets a Mayweather payday. It makes sense for Khan to wait for the Brook fight, which he doesn't have to earn.

Unless Khan really believes beating Alexander or Guererro gets him Mayweather, what is his incentive to take on someone with a pulse knowing that Brook is waiting?

Khan vs Brook at Eithad Stadium would be Nice...

Don't think it would sell out Wembley.

Kell Brook is not even known in my area lol.

How do you know no one in America wants to see that fight?

Eddie is getting so ahead of himself with this Brook/Khan plan. We don't know what Al Haymon wants yet.
