How important is an unbeaten record these days?

Considering, most of these boxers with unbeaten records past 20-25 fights have been spoon-fed palooka's, had the ref on their side in every fight and been the beneficiary of at least one gift decision. Why is it so scary a prospect for the 0 to go? Everyone who ever lived has suffered losses in one way or another and it really is what makes you a stronger person, how you deal with it.

Look at Lady GaGa as a prime example. She was manufactured, hyped, spoon-fed to the mindless mainstream music fans, every single person on the planet had their eardrums violated by her music one way or another. Now she is left to fend for herself and she has all but vanished from existence. Two years ago she was on a similar pedestal to Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Now the veil has been lifted and she is just another Rod Salka.

Think about boxers like Carlos Molina, Erislandy Lara and Gabriel Campillo. Realistically fighters like this must go into the bigger fights knowing that they are most likely to pick up the "L" regardless of how convincingly they expose the house fighter. They don't really have a choice but to depend on the fans judgement and perception of justice/reality.

Is it just going to get worse from here? Will we ever have an era again where the best fight the best and everyone wins some and loses some without controversy? How much importance do you yourself put on a fighter being unbeaten? Is it something we demand as an audience? Or is it more for the casual viewer?

It depends on the opposition really, I know that's a simple answer but that's all there is to it.

I see it as, if you lose but win the rematch, or vice-versa, then losing the 0 doesn't matter. Look @ Paul Williams.

He has 2 losses, but he also beat those 2 guys that beat him, so having a 0 isn't a big deal. It's mainly a marketing tool.

For boxing it means a lot.Its a lot easier to market a undefeated fighter compared to someone who has losses already. The one thing i like about mma is a lot of their champions have losses and those fighters are still well liked and not left out in the cold.Your gonna lose if you fight enough tough fighters on your way up.To me the guys who have lost but are able to overcome it and still become champions or successful fighters are the real champs. To many fighters these days are given an easy pass to a belt. Are you even a real champion if you haven't even fought anyone good to get that belt?

An undefeated record means nothing. It's got to a point where it's ridiculous that people like Fury, Wilder and others have amassed 20+ wins over bums. I'd rather see fighters like Maidana, Froch and Pacman who fight good fighters and lose sometimes.

Not really a big deal in the end, especially if the losses come against top competition.
