I'm not sure it necessarily has to do with being intellectual. Guys like Marquez and cotto went to college and so did a lot of fighters. It is clear at times that floyd hasn't educated himself. Manny on the other hand grew up way way poorer than floyd yet he made an effort to educate himself and now he is very well spoken and has a decent grasp of English in comparison to most fighters.

Even still I wouldn't say floyd is dumb though. He does show a keen business state of mind. I mean he completely changed his image because even though he was good he wasn't getting attention. Now everybody talks about him because he created this persona. It's also clear he understands how the business of boxing works.

Floyd may not have made any effort to educate himself but I would never say he is dumb. And this is from someone who hates floyd's personality.
