Comments Thread For: James Page Gets 7 Years in Prison For Bank Robberies

A federal judge in Oakland sentenced a former world champion James Page, convicted of several bank robberies, to seven years in prison, handing down a lighter sentence in part because of the defendant's boxing-related injuries, his difficult childhood and a mistake by a Georgia court in 2001 that resulted in his spending additional years in prison.

James caught a break and was obviously before a decent judge.
He will be free by age 50.
That's still enough time left to build the remainder of a broken life.
It's a better hand than many others in his shoes have been dealt.

I met him in Sun Valley Mall in Concord, the same place I met Roy Jones when he was an amateur. Page had just a week earlier beaten the unbeaten Alfred Ankuma on Fox Sports and I recognized him and the Ten Goose jacket he was wearing. I told him I thought he could be a champ, which he later did. What a waste of a life to go from champ to this.

Shit! Dude got off lucky .... Normally when guys rob banks of that worthless fiat currency, judges try to throw the book at them.

Still sad to see another boxer tipping the scales in the wrong direction.

"No one is the true welterweight champion until they beat James Page." Which one of you young whipper snappers knows who said that and why?
