Comments Thread For: Photos: Hernandez, Arslan Go To War at Messehalle Erfurt

Messehalle Erfurt, Erfurt, Germany - At almost 44 years, Firat Arslan came just two points short of accomplishing an enormous task - winning a major belt in the cruiserweight division at a record-breaking age. He performed well enough for Leszek Jankowiak of Poland to award him a narrow win over defending IBF 200lb champion Yoan Pablo Hernandez with a slim score of 115-113, but he was overruled by Frenchman Vincent Dupas (115-113) and, more importantly, American Shafiq Rashada (116-113), who both saw it for the Cuban.

It was a brutal fight. I cannot remember seeing any modern boxers ears as effed up as Arslan's. Both badly cauliflowered from Hernandez punches.

I wasn't on boxingscene last night. Was that the consensus?

Hernandez was definetely throwing a more pittypats than powershots thats right.

Hernandez did not fight up to par that is also correct. Then again he has been out of action for a long time due to a nasty virus infection that has attacked his internalisere organs. Nobody was certain how it would affect him.

Still one could be dissapointed that he did not seem to have an answer for Arslan's expected and relentless pressure.

The consensus was also that it was a "robbery".

Really? Well I didn't score as I watched with a couple of friends, but i thought it was a close fight and Arslan probably threw it away by coasting the last round.

Robbery? No way. It was a 7-5 fight so there's no way you could call it a robbery.

Hernandez vs. Arslan was the most exciting fight I saw yesterday. I had it 115-113 Hernandez. Close but clear. No controversy whatsoever, that win is legit. Most people dismissed Arslan because he got stopped by Huck, but he beat him in their first fight and Huck got a gift decision.

The Cruiserweight division always delivers good fights. I'm looking forward to Wlodarczyk-Drozd and Lebedev-Kolodziej.
