Now why would Roach have said that (sure it makes Amir look good, but Manny was and still is) his superstar fighter. Clearly Roach was just speaking off the cuff and probably was just honest without thinking of the implications.
LOL.. i find it hard to believe roach would say that. if he did then he was only hyping khan up before the maidana fight. i still dont believe roach said that. i provided a link from my post, can u?

heres another one from roach. this was back in 2011. good enough for u?

      July 31st, 2011

Roach sees that as a sign that Khan is improving, but it could be just a case of Pacquiao taking it easy on Khan and then getting serious when he gets hit too many times. Pacquiao likely feels he has to put Khan in his place and then puts it in overdrive to pull away during the sessions.

“When they spar, it’s always good but, while Amir is more than able to hold his own, as it progresses Manny takes control,” Roach said to the dailystar.co.uk. “Amir has developed so much since I started working with him…Manny is a great fighter but Amir is certainly going in the right direction – that’s a fact.”

I like Khan and would like him in some interesting matches but he needs to start off proving himself as a top fighter in his division.
Exactly this. He never seems to the learn the lessons of humility and his own limitations. Garcia ****ed him up, Julio Diaz had him stumbling around the ring - but then he beats Collazo and it's back to calling out Mayweather and Pacquiao.

Pac, even this declining version, would wreck him. Only reason he doesn't is because he takes pity on him.

I mean, does his team even tell him what's going on? They offered the fight to Bob Arum? Really, Amir? Al Haymon would let out one of his fighters for a Pac HBO PPV?

Mayweather kept him dangling for months then dropped him when he realised the fans weren't buying it and chose Chino instead.

"Oh but Floyd is ducking me". Lol. If he was ducking you, he wouldn't have tried desperately to pass that fight off as legit for months. Floyd is gagging for a Khan fight cos it's so easy for him.

Also, all this stuff about him and Pac sparring is bull. They didn't spar that many rounds. It was all just spin cos Khan was going through the first of his rehabilitation phases and him sparring with Pac was to build his confidence, in his own mind and the publics. If Amir has taken some false confidence from this sessions, he is deluded.

Hang on, of course he's deluded. There are few more deluded people in boxing.

Another thing - Algieri might be a poor choice of opponent but he is a harder fight than Khan. He can actually take a punch.

Not only Roach but Ariza has also admitted it.

'Freddie Roach Confirms: Yes, Amir Khan Did Great In All The Sparring Sessions With Manny Pacquiao,Only Khan And Pacquiao Can Beat Floyd.

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach has revealed sensational details of the sparring sessions that took place between his star fighter - 8 division world champion Manny Pacquiao - and his former pupil - former unified junior welterweight world champion Amir Khan, at the Wildcard Gym in Hollywood, California, USA.

Roach has trained Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38KOs) for many years, overseeing his sensational world title triumphs in 8 weight classes - a record in boxing. Roach also started training Khan (28-3, 19KOs) in 2009 - when Khan was a Olympic Silver Medallist at the age of just 17, and was just coming off his first loss. Roach masterminded Khan's rise to the top of the junior welterweight division and becoming a 3 time world champion - winning the WBA 'Super', WBA and IBF junior welterweight titles - and overseeing great victories over the likes of Marco Antonio Barrera, Paulie Malignaggi, Zab Judah and Marcos Maidana.

Khan has since left Roach to join up with Virgil Hunter - lifelong trainer of Andre Ward - but British superstar Khan and Filipino superstar Pacquiao struck up a great friendship in the years they spent training together. They spent many days sparring together, and, ahead of Khan's expected May 3 date with pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather (45-0, 26KOs), Roach has revealed sensational details of their sparring sessions.

''Manny and Amir sparred many rounds together at the gym. It was great sparring, great to watch. They both have incredible footwork and handspeed. Amir was only young, but he was still in the process of winning world titles and unifying his division, Manny had the upper hand in experience and ring know how.'' Roach recalls.

''They both went all out, in sparring in my gym we never hold back or go easy. We spar hard. Even though Manny fought at 147lbs and Amir was fighting at 140lbs, usually in the gym Amir was weighing 145-150lbs. He was naturally the bigger guy. At that sort of weight, Amir has never been down before. He never got dropped once in sparring when he was with me. He did great against Manny. At first I was wary of letting him spar Manny, but he begged me to let him and I put him in there, and he did great.''

''When Amir was sparring at 145-150lbs, he was strong, big, powerful, but still had all his speed, and his punch resistance was good. It was when he had to go down to 140lbs and weight drain himself that sometimes his punch resistance was lesser. But he still took shots from people like Maidana and Judah!''

''Manny is a legend in boxing and has had an incredible career, but Amir imposed himself more and more as time went on. Some days Manny got the better of Amir, some days Amir got the better of Manny. But Manny never dropped Amir. Amir dropped Manny 3 times in total, in all the spars we had between them in the gym.''

''I always said there is only 2 guys who have the right style and skills to beat Mayweather - and they are Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan. It will be a great fight.'' he said.

I think it is fortunate cry baby Khan didn't get the fight because the bragging cherry picker has done nothing to deserve a big money fight with Pacquiao. Khan hasn't been a champion for years while Algieri is an undefeated champion. Khan may never be a champion again. Khan hasn't beat a top 10 world rated boxer since he beat Judah over three years ago. If Khan ever gets his courage up to fight a top 10 world rated welterweight like Thurman or Guerrero and he wins then he might get the huge money fights he wants but hasn't earned. Knowing Khan's ego he probably wanted Pacquiao to take the small end of the money. Hell, Pacquiao would shatter Kkan's glass jaw and knock him out just as quickly as he knocked out Hatton.
