Comments Thread For: Stevenson Ring Return Pushed Back, Pascal Fight Unlikely

The news of Bernard Hopkins facing Sergey Kovalev initially left lineal light heavyweight king Adonis Stevenson without a dance partner for a planned September 27 ring return. Unable to close in on a suitable opponent in time, it has now left him without a fight at all on the date.

A joint decision was made by Stevenson’s team and American cable giant Showtime to push back the reigning champion’s next fight to an unspecified date in October or November. October 18 has been tentatively tossed around as a possibility, though when he returns is dependent on the level of opposition and if all parties can broker a deal in time.

“It was a proposition by Showtime and we will go with that decision,” promoter Yvon Michel told RDS Canada on Thursday afternoon. “They want to have time to promote Adonis’ next fight. They told us to find a date in October or November.” [Click Here To Read More]

Yuck. Hope he chooses Savigne instead of Campillo though. Campillo does not have the necessary power to keep Adonis off him.

When was the last time two of Canada's top fighters did not fight each other??? Cannot believe there isn't a huge amount of pressure from Canadian boxing to get these two into the ring. It would be a huge fight in Canada.

It is obvious who Stevenson is going to fight next. He is going to fight the guy who has lost three of his last four fights, two by knockout. That is Al Haymon's modus operandi and Showtime will be ****** enough to buy this fight. The fight card will probably feature an undercard with separate fights involving Keith Thurman and Robert Guerrerro with equally weak opponents.

Al Haymon is not going to risk Stevenson losing before he gets a big money shot at Hopkins. Stevenson will fight the guy who has lost three of his last four fights -- two by knockout -- next.

Showtime should change its boxing motto to: Great Fighters, Terrible Fights!
