Comments Thread For: Tarver: A Win Over Banks Gets Me Closer To Title Shot

Monday night boxing will arrive in the great state of Texas on September 29 when FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes’ sensational series Golden Boy Live! presents an explosive heavyweight showdown between former Light Heavyweight World Champion Antonio “Magic Man” Tarver and top contender Johnathon Banks at the State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas.

“I’m happy to be back in the ring and fighting in Texas for the first time,” said Tarver, who returns to action for the first time since November, 2013. “A win over Johnathon Banks is just what I need to get my shot at the heavyweight title. To come back to boxing on the same day that my son, Antonio Jr. makes his pro-debut; that’s even more rewarding.”

Tarver does need to retire, but I'm rooting for him over Banks because of the way he let Mitchell beat him.

I guess you're not the only one who feels Banks threw that rematch with Mitchell. Banks had him hurt and then let off the gas. Almost as if it wasn't meant for him to win. He didn't care to inch closer to an eventual showdown with Wladimir maybe? I don't know. But what I do know is that he could've beaten Mitchell easily.

I'm hoping Tarver wins and wins impressively. Banks belongs in Wlad's corner as his trainer not part time professional boxer
