Comments Thread For: Sexton Out, Gary Cornish To Now Face Ian Lewison On 9/6

Ian Lewison 10-2-1 (6 KOs) will face Gary Cornish 18-0 (10 KOs) in an eliminator for the vacant British heavyweight title on September 6 at the Lagoon Leisure Centre, Paisley.

Cornish had been due to face former Commonwealth champion Sam Sexton until a back injury forced him to withdraw from the contest.

Current Southern Area champion, Lewison has been in action twice in the past two months picking up a second round stoppage victory and a points decision over Kreso Bogdanovic and Hrvoje Kisicek, respectively. As a result, he believes that he is fit and ready to take the fight at less than a months notice.

Speaking to BoxingScene.com of how the fight came about, Lewison said: “He was supposed to fight Sexton and for whatever reason Sexton pulled out so they offered it to me and I said ‘Yeah’.” [Click Here To Read More]

I'm not going to be as hard on Cornish as Lewison is here, but I understand where he is coming from. To me, Garry Cornish looks like a guy who has the physical attributes to be a very good boxer, but not the innate ability or talent.
If I'm wrong, he should be able to use his height, jab, and fitness, to keep Lewison under control and win this.
If I'm right, he is going to be in trouble against Lewison, who is a natural fighter with a spiteful punch.
