Undefeated Cuban heavyweight Luis Ortiz 21-0-0 (18 KO's) held a rigorous 35-minute sparring session on Tuesday as part of his training for the upcoming bout with fellow unbeaten Lateef Kayode 20-0-0 (16 KO's) of Nigeria. The two will battle for the vacant WBA interim-heavyweight title on September 11th at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

He looks in pretty good shape and by September, he'll be in great shape. Nice to see the discipline is there and his head is in the right place.

Yeah, this is why I've always thought Luis Ortiz had the best chance to win a title of all the Cuban defectors recently. He actually comes in the same kind of shape usually and is actually motivated. Kayode is going to get stomped big time!

I like how he jumps right into the mix taking on Kayode early in his career. That's not what I call a protected fighter. He could have fought a bunch of setups but obviously wants to make a name for himself and is taking an obvious risk.

All Cubans fighters that had amateur experience take on the most dangerous fighters, there's no duck in their heart, it will come a time that this generation of fans will appreciated that, of course you will alway have the fan-boy-stalker they have nothing good to say about the Cubans, anything that look like Cuban they will talk $h1t without any base, and seeing that their idols most of the time are a creation of some media mogul and power house promoters what really can expect from them...

Now that I think of it, I don't remember a single Cuban fighter who was overprotected. By their 14th through 16th fight they have either fought a contender or a number of contenders or are a contender or fought for a title or won a title. That is saying a lot.

I've been wondering what happened to Diosbelys Hurtado. He was on a 9 win streak in 2011 and then dropped out for some reason. I realize he 39 but he had a good streak going.
