Yes you read that correctly, the rematch is what i am talking about.
Hear me out, first of all watch the knockout and the count:
As you can see Groves was hurt badly, i don't deny that but as soon as the referee waved it off you can see Groves immediately rise up ready to continue and bear in mind the referee barely gave the guy 3 seconds. What seems to have happened is that Groves wanted the traditional 8 seconds to get his bearings, not realising the referee would wave it off so quickly.
It's not like the Pacquiao vs Marquez 4 fight where Pacquiao was flat on his face and didn't get up for far longer after it was called off. Speaking of Pacquiao and Marquez......
Bring your memory back to their first fight, in case you can't remember here is the first round highlights:
skip to 1:30 to see the point i am making.....
As you can see Marquez went down for the third time in 1 round and was BADLY hurt, you can see him laying flat on his back with both gloves on his face for several seconds until he manages to beat the count just in time. This stoppage would have been far more understandable considering Marquez was dropped 3 times in 1 round whereas Froch vs Groves 2 was very competitive and he was only down for 2-3 seconds before the referee stopped it, it's not like Groves stayed down after the ref waved it, he got STRAIGHT BACK UP obviously not realizing he would wave it off so quickly as i said earlier.
These kind of reckless decisions by the referees can prevent greatness/ historical events in boxing history therefore it must be mentioned to avoid it happening again. Just imagine the referee stopped the Pacquiao-Marquez 1 fight in the first round? no one would have complained but we would never have had the great 4 fight series. Same with Froch-Groves 2, nobody besides me complains about the second fight stoppage, robbing the unaware fans of an amazing third fight between the two.
To conclude, both of their fights were stopped prematurely imo, further strengthening my case for a third fight.
So my question to you is: now that it's been a couple months and everything has settled down and looking back on it do you share the view that this fight was stopped prematurely?
