Everyone already knew that this card was going to be terrible. The A list fighters on that card were given opponents to highlight them, and make them look good and that's exactly what happened.
Showtime should be embarrassed for putting together such a lopsided card. Jacobs beats Fletcher easily, because it was obvious they were on completely different levels.
Lamont Peterson fought a 30+ year old fighter, who has been in and out of trouble, not active and did what you expected him to do. Beat on him for 10 rounds before they stopped it.
Danny Garcia fought journeyman Rod Salka, and I laughed reading some of the comments in this place thinking the kid had a chance. First off he is coming arguably from 130lbs, all the way up to 140 (well actually 142 because Garcia couldn't make 140 anymore) and fought the linear champ in the division.
He had no business fighting Danny Garcia, and that's no disrespect to Salka. I have respect for anyone who gets in the ring, but this was a waste of my Saturday evening. For some reason they couldn't make Peterson vs Garcia, which I think would have made for a great fight style wise.
On the other hand, Foxsports 1 put on a fantastic show from Pittsburgh.
Sammy Vasquez was in an amazing fight vs James Stevenson and Montey Meza Clay was in a war with Allan Herrera. When you put two young, hungry, undefeated fighters in the ring, this is what happens.
The unfortunate thing about this, is that we don't have much of a say so in this unless we tune out. We don't buy the tickets, and we don't tune in the tv. Boxing has been pushed further and further from the mainstream and this is one of the reasons why. Al Haymon set this up, and he should be ashamed.
I'm not mad at Danny Garcia, because he fights who is put in front of him, but what a waste of a night. It was obvious they were setting him up to look good, to generate a highlight KO and get interest in his next fight. Well they did just that, and we saw how corrupt boxing is first hand.
I really wish that boxing would take a page from the UFC and Dana White, it's hard enough to generate great fights and make big money from them, but you won't get that if you keep doing stuff like this.
I don't think it's even worth talking about any of the fights, since none of them where worth watching.
